Senior Full-stack PHP developer wanted for Herodesk (Remote) - CLOSED FOR NEW APPLICATIONS
We are looking for a fully remote, senior-level, full-stack PHP developer to help build our modern customer support platform. You’ll join our founder, Anders, in building the product and get to work with a modern tech stack and AI.
It does not matter whether you’re more experienced with Frontend or Backend. What is important, though, is that you know how to do both.

Hours: Fulltime (40 hours per week)
When to start: As soon as possible
Work location: 100% remote
Salary: Competitive salary and profit share program
If you recognize this, you are the one we are looking for!
- You are incredibly targeted and focused on your daily goals. You love a clear goal, and there is almost no better feeling than achieving the goals you have set for yourself. You like being efficient and really feel you get things done.
- Once you make a commitment, you take 100% accountability for it. You feel an emotional responsibility to follow through on it. You like to take ownership, and you are motivated by responsibility.
- You like to work alone, focused, and uninterrupted towards your most important goals. Starting the day knowing what to do motivates you, and you like the feeling of continuous progress.
- You are, by nature, very detail-oriented in your work. Some would perhaps call you a perfectionist. You like to have things sorted in ‘systems and boxes’, meaning that you naturally work in a very structured way.
- You have always had a good natural overview. You feel the need to coordinate and plan your things so that you always know what your next step is. You are generally good at planning and prioritizing tasks yourself.
- You enjoy identifying and solving problems. You get energized when a challenge presents itself, and you can eliminate the problem quickly. Your mindset towards sudden changes and challenges is quite positive overall.
- You are naturally curious and like to learn new things and develop yourself and your skill set. You can’t help but dive into new knowledge and feel stimulated in a learning process.
Your responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and bug-fixing our product, both on the Frontend and the Backend
- You will play a central role in designing and implementing AI Agents and many other features in Herodesk.
- You will be handling everything from designing the code to deploying it. Since there is no other department with which to share this responsibility, you can, will, and are comfortable taking end-to-end accountability for your code.
What we expect from you:
- You are fluent in English, and you are especially good at writing English since our daily communication around tasks needs to be clear and efficient.
- You are willing to work within three time zones from Copenhagen, Denmark (GMT+1).
-
- You either have experience as a senior PHP developer or are a highly talented developer and see yourself ready to level up as a senior.
- You have experience with one of the following (or similar) tools and frameworks:
-
- Backend: Yii2 (the framework we use), Laravel, Symfony
- Frontend: MVC frameworks, jQuery & Bootstrap5
As a senior developer, you are expected to be capable of taking substantial features from concept to shipping. We expect that your code is accurate, reliable, and maintainable even when faced with challenging or complicated problems. We also expect that you always take security, performance, scalability, and user experience into account.
While you are expected to master these skills and work independently, you will still work closely with our Founder, who’ll function as Product Manager and your coding buddy.
About Herodesk
Herodesk is a young, growing startup. We are building a new customer service platform for webshops, designed to be simpler and easier to use than the alternatives.
Our product (also called Herodesk) was launched in September 2023. We have close to 150 paying customers, and more are joining us every week.
Our goal is to make customer service easy. It should be easy for our customers to use Herodesk to handle their customer support, which will make it easier for their customers to get the help they need.
We have the same values in our product development. We aim to keep things simple, bug-free, easy to maintain & use, and super fast! We’d much rather do fewer things very well than many mediocre things.
Our product centralizes support across multiple channels into one view and easily integrates with our customers’ webshop platforms. This ensures that our customers never have to worry about missing a customer’s question or who is responsible for which support cases.
We also integrate AI deep into our product to enhance our customers’ productivity and efficiency.
We are a very small team consisting only of our founder, a customer success manager and a marketing manager.
We work 100% remote and online, so we don’t (and probably never will) have a central office or headquarters. Instead, we work remotely, with all the benefits and flexibility that come with it. We meet physically three to four times a year in different locations to connect and make sure we’re streamlined with each other, but other than that, we’re all online.
Do you recognize yourself in this job? Then I look forward to hearing from you!
During the recruitment process, you will be presented with both a test and a case.
How to apply:
To be considered, please send a motivated written application to ace@herodesk.io. Please send a link to your Github account or other projects you’ve worked on.
You are also welcome to write if you have any questions.
Application deadline is April 20th.
What's it like working for us?
We prioritise a calm work environment that allows us to focus on our jobs without constantly being distracted and interrupted.
We want to give you the freedom, tools, trust and support you need to do some of the best work in your career with us.
We use OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) to set clear goals, and our online project management is a source of truth on projects and tasks.
We believe in an asynchronous way of working, so we have as few meetings, e-mails, and (especially) DMs as possible. Instead, we value long-form writing to support our work.
We do regular check-ins to coordinate and align, but other than that, we strive to create an environment that lets us do as much as possible in a 40-hour workweek.
